Leadership Starts with Mindset: A Lesson from the School Run
This morning, I was reminded of a simple but powerful truth about leadership—and it came from an unexpected source: my nine-year-old daughter.
Just the night before, she was cartwheeling around the living room, full of energy and joy. But by morning, she’d woken up with a cough and a heavy dose of self-pity. For a child, even a minor ailment can feel like the end of the world. And as any parent knows, those moments can quickly derail the day.
But here’s where leadership begins: with mindset.
On the drive to school, I shared a simple principle with her:
“If you think you’re going to have a good day, you probably will. If you think you’re going to have a bad day… well, you know how that goes.”
It wasn’t a lecture—just a gentle nudge to reframe her thinking. And by the time we pulled up at the school gates, she was smiling again, chatting about her spellings and walking in with a bit more bounce in her step.
That small shift reminded me of something every business owner and leader needs to hear:
Your mindset sets the tone—not just for your day, but for your team, your culture, and your outcomes.
Leadership isn’t just about strategy or execution. It’s about how you show up. When challenges arise (and they always do), your ability to reframe, stay grounded, and lead with optimism can be the difference between progress and paralysis.
So today, take a moment to check in with your mindset.
Are you approaching your day with intention, positivity, and resilience?
Are you modeling the kind of thinking you want to see in your team?
Because whether you’re leading a business, a team, or just yourself—leadership starts with how you think.
Here’s to cartwheels, coughs, and choosing a better outlook.
